The Johnbosco Onunkwo Foundation (JOF) in conjunction with the Good Governance Ambassadors of Nigeria (GOGAN), Anambra state chapter recently brought over three thousand youths (3000) in Anambra state under one roof for a capacity building workshop.
The youths who were drawn from the 21 Local Government Areas of the state converged at the Oma Event centre, Awka for the epoch event. The workshop focused on developing strong entrepreneurial mindset with emphasis on emerging ventures that young people can access to become employers of labour. The underlying benefits in Agricultural sector was forayed by seasoned practitioner. Equally, the foundation appealed to the youths on the growing tide of suicide and ways to steer off depressive thoughts.
Addressing the audience, the convener, High Chief Engr. Johnbosco Onunkwo explained that the programme is geared towards enlightening the teeming youths on creating enabling platforms in activating and maximizing their potentials. The aim of the programme is to equip the youth with the prerequisite mindset and skills to be self-reliant, independent of government and to empower themselves.
The convener disclosed the motive behind the programme as not unconnected with his love for humanity and desire to impact the lives of young people positively. Stressing on the need for young people to re-cultivate the value of hard work irrespective of assistance from Government or politicians, Onunkwo posited that the journey to greatness resides with an individual’s determination to succeed.
In his words, “Time has come when we need to tell the people that government cannot do everything. It is about time young people rise, creatively think out ideas of what they can do for themselves to survive and thrive amidst harsh realities of life. I believe in capacity building hence the conception and continuation of this project which is in its second phase”.
He further hailed the diversification agenda of the President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government, while encouraging the youths to key into that agenda. He cited Agriculture as a core and least tapped area of the economy Nigerians, enjoining youths to explore opportunities in the sector.
In her remarks, the Senator-elect of Anambra Central Senatorial District, Sen. Iyom Uche Ekwunife commended Engr. Onunkwo for investing in the future of the young people.
The State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Hon. Basil Ajidike while appreciating Engr. Onunkwo who is one of the party stakeholders, enjoined the young people to emulate his resilience, doggedness, hard work and uncommon show of philanthropy.
In their separate remarks, Hon. Elijah Onyeagba (Igbaka Igba), Hon. Paul Ezeobi lent their support to the programme which they described as a welcome development and worthy of emulation.
The APC Youth Leader, South-East, Chief Olisa Emeka , the APC candidate for Ihiala Federal Constituency, Hon. Theo Nnorom and the APC flagbearer for Dunukofia, Anaocha and Njikoka Federal Constituency were among the dignitaries that graced the programme.
