Members of Igbo-Ukwu community in Aguata council area of Anambra state yesterday, were highly elated as the Johnbosco Onunkwo Foundation offered free healthcare services to the people.
This is part of the foundation’s “AGUATA FREE MEDICAL TOUR 2018/19” for all the towns in the local government. So far, eleven (11) towns have benefitted from this laudable intervention.
Over 200 persons including young and old benefitted from the medical services which held at the Igbo-Ukwu town hall.
The scheme featured Health Education, free laboratory tests, free out-patient consultation & drugs, free eye test, distribution of reading glasses and donation of home kits for blood pressure and blood sugar test.
Reacting after participating in the exercise, one of the beneficiaries who simply identified herself as Mrs. Nwanneka, described the foundation as God sent. She expressed gratitude to the foundation for such wonderful gesture. In the same vein, Mr. Eze who equally had a free eye test commended the foundation for such humanitarian service while counting himself lucky to have participated. He prayed God to bless the foundation and grant them the grace to do more for Ndi Anambra.
Lauding the exercise, the Medical Director of Apex Hospital, Igbo-Ukwu, Prof. Uchenna Nwosu commended the benefactor, Engr. Johnbosco Onunkwo for what he described as a wonderful initiative in sensitizing the people of the community on the need for regular medical examinations. He urged him not to relent in his quest to extend the humanitarian gesture to other communities in Anambra.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the programme, Chief Onunkwo explained that his motive is beyond political inclinations as humanitarian gestures as this has become his lifestyle. According to him, service to humanity remains a clarion call to all who wish to make heaven. In his words, “Humanitarian service is the password to heaven”. He expressed optimism that the exercise will be extended to every community in Anambra state.
In his remarks, the coordinating Doctor, Dr. Ejike expressed satisfaction on the turnout of people which he described as quite overwhelming.
Earlier, the foundation led by Engr Onunkwo embarked on her monthly regular exercise in Aguata council area aimed at reducing diabetes and hypertension in the society.
