It was all shades of glamour laced with pomp and pageantry as front line party chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Engr. Johnbosco Onunkwo and state coordinator of Good Governance Ambassadors of Nigeria (GOGAN) rolled out drums to celebrate the unprecedented victory of President Muhammadu Buhari at the 2019 Presidential election.
The colorful event which held in Awka, Anambra state capital had in attendance party stalwarts and members drawn across the state.
Engr Onunkwo in his address, described President Mohammadu Buhari’s success at the poll as “victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Nigerians at large.”
Onwa as fondly called, who further described Buhari’s victory as “liberation for Nigerians” reaffirmed the readiness of the group to continue to support the president and the party.
“Buhari’s victory is divine as God Himself ordained it.
“Some of his achievements which include anti-graft war, restoration and diversification of the economy and the construction major roads, among others endeared him to the people,” he said.
Engr. Onunkwo also noted that many major roads are currently undergoing reconstruction including the Enugu-Onitsha expressway while the railway project awarded by the Federal Government would benefit the South-East.
He urged the people of the region to support Buhari’s second tenure, assuring that the president would keep to his promise of handing over to an Igbo president in 2023.
“We have a leader that believes in equity,” he stressed.
In his remarks, the state Secretary of APC, Mr Chuks Agufugo said the event was a thank you gathering to reward those who saw the need to re-elect Buhari.
He charged the electorate to vote massively for all APC candidates in Saturday state Assembly election, saying “they have been tested and trusted; hence, carefully selected.”
Mr Augustine Muomaife, the state Youth leader of the party criticised the attitude of some APC members who are not proud of the party.
He charged them to refrain from such and appealed to them to consolidate on Buhari’s victory by voting for all APC candidates at the March 9 House of Assembly elections in the state.
On his part, a chieftain of the party and former Commissioner for Information in the state, Mr Jerry Amilo said “we are celebrating another good four years of sanity and continuous fight against corruption.”
