For the people of Aguluezechukwu, a town in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra, July 27th, 2019 would remain indelible in their hearts as Johnbosco Onunkwo Foundation, a non-governmental and non-profit organization organized Free Medical programme for hundreds of the community members.

This is part of the organization’s gesture in her Medical Project tagged “AGUATA FREE MEDICAL TOUR 2018/19” assisting communities in Anambra state gain meaningful access to high quality medical assistance/treatment at no cost. The community is the 13th out of 14 communities in the council area to have accessed this noble gesture from the foundation.

The towns that have accessed this special intervention include Ekwulobia, Umuchu, Ezinifite, Ikenga, Amesi, Umuona, Nkpologwu, Isuofia, Ora-eri, Achina, Igbo-Ukwu and Akpo.

Highlights from this medical tour include Health Education, donation of home kits for blood pressure and blood sugar test to the community, free laboratory tests, free out-patient consultation and drugs. Others include free eye test, free reading glasses, free cataract surgeries, to mention but a few, after which those with serious health conditions are followed up for further treatment..

Addressing the patients, the founder of the foundation, Engr. Johnbosco Onunkwo disclosed that having touched deeply by the travails of rural dwellers in accessing quality health care, his foundation deemed it pertinent to bring this most important sector to the door steps of these dwellers.

According to him, health is wealth, “It is only when one is healthy that he or she can think of what to do to earn a living. Our people die on daily basis over health issues that can ordinarily be solved if there are quality and affordable healthcare delivery in our rural areas. This gesture is simply borne out of love and service to humanity. We commenced this in my community Umuchu many years ago but the clamour from neighbouring towns led us to extend it to all the towns in the council area and we equally hope to permeate other towns in the state”.

The President General of Aguluezechukwu ably represented by his deputy, Hon. Godwin Okeke expressed immense gratitude for the free health care outreach stating that its a welcome development. While presenting certificate of appreciation to Chief Engr Onunkwo, the PG described him as a ‘humanitarian’ devoted to providing succour to the less privileged and vulnerable people. Hon. Okeke urged the foundation never to relent in the magnificent work of touching lives in various forms.

Earlier in his remark after the benefactor paid him a courtesy call, the traditional ruler of the community, HRH Igwe F.E Ebelendu appreciated Engr. Onunkwo for what he described as a rare act of benevolence. He prayed God to bless Engr. Onunkwo as he continues to put smiles on the faces of rural dwellers.

The last community to benefit from this gesture in Aguata council area is Uga, the date would come up in a few months after which we would move into Orumba’, Onunkwo asserted.
